The Paranormal is a great event which runs for six hours from late afternoon into the night.
There is a 5 min head start for teams in costume, so there were plenty of characters in their costumes at the start line. The 7-mile laps were tight and twisty demanding your attention in the daylight and your commitment to the unknown at night.
Blue Ridge Cyclery was providing neutral support, plenty of grills cranking out burgers and hot dogs, the music was rocking, and of course there were Scud fries being cooked on borrowed equipment.
John Kromis‘ kids got their first taste of the event racing the kids race in their Halloween costumes.
Tom Nuemann and Kathryn Hansen race Duo Coed and finished strong.
John Kromis and Noah Flaxman raced Duo Male in a deep field. John started before Noah arrived and was hoping he didn’t have to pull a double first lap as Noah was traveling down from his 3rd place finish at the Rev3 Fall Foliage MTB Race earlier that afternoon. They finished up with a strong 5th place finish in the Duo Male category.
I made it half a lap with that suit on, I had to ditch the jacket it was just too hot! Such a good course though! My new S-works shoes were so comfortable I realized I was still wearing them in between laps.
Nothing is better than being Superman! Sure it was hot but I didn’t abandon my costume on my lap. This was my first night race and it was really surprising to have the trees block the light from shining around the corner.
