Sunday was a tough one for me. Throughout the week we assumed the AFC Sugar Hill race at Patapsco would be postponed due to rain. We had decided if it was postponed we were going to ride about 40 miles of the SM100 course.
Saturday I found out the the AFC race was going on as scheduled. Now I had a tough decision to make. Either race the AFC race in the largest registered group when I did not feel I was in race shape yet, or go have fun in Shenandoah.
I actually did not make my decision until Sunday morning when I decided AFC it was after a little friendly encouragement to come races from our Baltimore friends.
Showed up early to see the beginners race finish and was happy to see that most of their bikes were not overly muddy.
Started pretty far back in the pack because i was not sure how the race was going to go. Surprisingly the race went very well. Had a great time working my way through the pack throughout the race on the super flowy Patapsco trails many of which I remembered from our rides with Chris Lane and Kathleen.
I ended up finishing a respectable 10th place which I was very happy with. I was able to watch Kathleen finish in an awesome 3rd place.
