2014 Spring Thaw Race #3

Saturday was the REV3Adventure Spring Thaw Race #3 – The Greens at Willowsford.

Wicked Wash Racing raced their way to podium finishes with AJ Kray finishing 1st place Cat 2 racing Gentleman 30-39, Mary Dobroth finishing 2rd place racing Cat 2 Ladies 30-39, and Chris Dobroth finished 3rd place Cat 1 racing Gentleman 29 and Under edging out the 4th place finisher by 1 second with an exciting sprint finish.

Adam and Andy from Wicked Wash were on hand as sponsors of the series and to provide their services with a bike wash to transform all of the dirty bikes to clean bikes after the race. WWR teammates Chris McGibbon, John Kromis, and Kathryn Hansen all lent a hand washing bikes after they finished pre-riding the nearby Leesburg Bakers Dozen course that morning. And not to be outdone, WWR teammates AJ Kray, Chris Dobroth, and Mary Dobroth all lent a hand as well after finishing up their respective races!

Thanks to REV3 for putting on another wonderful race and to Wicked Wash for transforming all of the dirty bikes into clean bikes!

Race Reports:

Weather was looking nice for the last of the Rev3Adventure Spring Thaw Series. Spokes Etc had come through and fixed a warranty issue with my bike, so I was ready and excited to race. The wind was strong, and prologue gave me a taste of what I was in for on the day. The pace wasn’t hard from the line, but rather surged as different people moved up and got a taste of the wind before looking for someone else to do the work. I missed the selection for the front group and knew I was in for a tough one. I chased hard for two laps then ran out of legs. Heck of a course, super fast, windy, just enough mud to be really glad to get the bike cleaned after the race.

Kat and I headed over to the REV3 event to help Wicked Wash at the bike wash. We got there early enough to watch a few laps of the race before the finishers started arriving and needing their bikes washed. Once the bikes stated to arrive it was a very busy afternoon of non-stop bike washing. Great to see how much the riders appreciate being able to get their bikes washed after a race. Also great to help out Adam and Andy when they need us. Chris D, Mary D and AJ all raced and had great finishes. AJ climbed the top step of the podium for the first time. Great job guys. They even helped us finish up the bike wash at the end of the day. Had a great time with everyone.
