Racing for Wicked Wash Racing, Mary Dobroth and Tom Howe raced the 4 hour Marathon. Chris Dobroth raced Expert Male. Both Mary and Tom were looking to get in as many laps as possible ahead the of the upcoming SM100 while Chris was looking to defend his home course.
The Marathon race started at 8am. The Expert race started at 11a.
Mother Nature decided her contribution to the day would start around 9:30am with a steady rain. The steady rain soon turned in a downpour that would last for the rest of the day. Because of the rain, the trail conditions slowly deteriorated lap by lap.
Racing Endurance Female, Mary took a 3rd place podium finish with 3 laps in 03:58:24. Mary achieved her goal of being able to start a fourth lap, but decided to shut it down due to the pouring rain and the steadily deteriorating trail conditions.
Racing Endurance Men, Tom finished 6th place with 4 laps in 04:08:11. Tom rode most of his race with a broken saddle suffered in the middle of his second lap and then had to deal with a steadily leaking tire that wouldn’t hold air during his fourth lap. All of which forced him to back off his pace and prevented him from having the option to have to decide whether or not to go out for his fifth lap in the pouring rain.
