August 7th the circus that is World Cup XC and Downhill Racing descended on Windham NY. Trailbuilders were in the woods, team trucks filled the parking lots, vendors pushed up tents and bikes were everywhere.
Red Bull and Rolled In threw a party around a pump track they built just uphill of the finish lines. The pump track action culminated with the RedBull Berm Burners competition. Wicked Wash’s own Adam Ward broke out his dirt jumper and went to work on the course making it into the finals of the competition. Not only did Wicked Wash contribute to the racing, but Andy fired the crowd up when he rallied the Wicked Wash Beach Cruiser around the pump track! Congratulations to Joe Hayle of i9 for grabbing second place.

Sunday Chris, Kat, and Mary took a break from working in the Wicked Wash tent and lined up for Kenda’s Race the World Cross Country Race. The weather was perfect, the course was dry, the climbs steep and the descents blazing. A late season race for everyone, they kept the pedals turning fighting up the climbs, and shredding the downhills. When the dust settled Chris came away with 8th in the Cat-1 race, Kat grabbed 7th in the Cat-1 race and Mary crushed it for 6th in the Cat-2 race.
A World Cup race within a day’s drive? Count me in! There’s an amateur race the same weekend!? I could not have been more excited to roll with Wicked Wash to help wash bikes at the World Cup and race the same course as the elite pros. If you have not gone to Windham (or any other world cup event) I suggest you try and make it out next year. It was awesome. The cross country eliminator race, the regular cross country race, the downhill (those guys are NUTS!), I thought it was steep and scary on TV, in person it’s hard to watch…
Oh yeah, on Saturday we raced the World Cup course. Even the Cat 1 field was international, so cool. The course was beautiful, lots of climbing with a few quick single track pieces stuck in allowing you to get out of sight. Then some fast downhills on a short lap. I had a great race. I raced unusually smart and may lap times got faster every lap. I finished grinning ear to ear in 8th place!
