Saturday was the 2015 Snotcycle p/b Go Time Racing held on the fast and flowy (which must only be true in the Summertime from our firsthand account) mountain bike trails on the grounds of the Freedom Center just outside of Lucketts, VA.
The Snotcycle is billed as a “weather be damned” rain, sleet, the nastier the better, race. And once again, it lived up to its billing as the conditions were a nasty mix of snow, sleet, and rain with temperatures hovering right around freezing as the trail conditions quickly deteriorated from a snow/ice/slush covering into a 5 mile long quagmire of mud and water.
Even with the adverse weather, plenty of racers still turned out to brave the elements and take on the best of what Old Man Winter had served up for the Cat 3, Cat 2, Cat 1 and SS races.
Wicked Wash Racing had 9 racers start in the Cat 2, Cat 2 40+, and Cat 1 races. Racing Cat 1 Female, Laurie Johnson with a 1st place finish. Racing Cat 2 Female, Mary Dobroth with a 2nd place finish. Racing Cat 1 Male against a who’s who of local talent, Marco Demartin with a 4th place finish on his SS and Chris Doborth with a 7th place finish. Racing Cat 2 Male, Noah Flaxman with a 5th place finish and AJ Kray with a 13th place finish on his SS. Finally, racing Cat 2 40+ Male, Jeff Niner with a top ten 9th place finish and both John Kromis and Tom Howe with DNFs calling their respective races at the end of their 1st laps.
Après-vélo, the team headed to our favorite pizza joint in Leesburg for some amazing wood fired pizza and tasty pints at Fire Works Pizza.
Congratulations to everyone who raced and thanks to Go Time Racing and the Freedom Center for allowing us to race on their trails for this latest installment of the Snotcycle.
